Simplify. Simplify. Simplify

01 OVERVIEW

This case study demonstrates how I streamlined the information displayed on the tool, enabling users to effortlessly locate what they need.

02 ROLE

Iteration Design

After the initial user interviews and the design of the first iteration were completed, I joined the tools register team. My role was to refine the design into its second iteration and ensure a seamless transition through to handover.

03 KEY CHALLENGES

Less is more

Challenge

Stakeholders are accustomed to the current tool's display and have additional requirements. My challenge was to seamlessly incorporate all these elements into the UI, ensuring simplicity and ease of use.

Solution

We followed the MoSCoW model of prioritisation, as illustrated in the diagram below, to determine essential inclusions. The 'won't have' (nice-to-have) items have been documented for future consideration.

04 UI DESIGN

Design System

For this project, we utilized the internal Arup design system, ensuring consistency and coherence across all internal tools.

05 TAKEAWAY

Handover ready

Winning moments

  • Improved Usability: Initial user testing produced highly positive results.

  • Importance of a business analyst: The business analyst meticulously maintained thorough documentation, which proved invaluable throughout the entire design process.

Lessons Learned

  • Stakeholders: learned to interact with stakeholders on a project.

  • Adaptability: Open to making changes to the designs, even when they are minor as these changes could have been missed.
